Ülkü Solak Elected to Executive Committee of International Association of Young Lawyers

Ülkü Solak, Counsel at Moroğlu Arseven, has been elected to the Executive Committee of the International Association of Young Lawyers (AIJA). Established in 1962, AIJA is the only global association devoted to lawyers and in-house counsel aged 45 and under. She has been a member of AIJA since 2011 and has acted as a National Reporter for Turkey for a range of commissions. In this capacity, Ülkü has been involved with AIJA’s Corporate and M&A Commission, Intellectual Property, Technology, Media, and Telecommunications Commission, as well as the Tax Commission.

Ülkü was elected to the Executive Committee for a three year term on the basis of votes cast at the organization’s General Assembly in London, during September 2015. The Executive Committee assists with AIJA management, taking an active role in promoting AIJA’s objectives and Strategic Plan. In particular, the Executive Committee works with other AIJA groups on human rights projects, development of the legal profession and membership recruitment. The Executive Committee also approves membership applications and National Representatives. It consists of 48 individual AIJA members, with 16 new members elected each year by the General Assembly.

As an active AIJA member, Ülkü has attended and participated in a range of panels and workshops since 2011, including Annual Congress, Half Year Conferences and seminars for her various commission roles. Each year, Ülkü has presented detailed country reports to the General Reporters of each commission, outlining Turkish legal developments for the particular practice area. In 2015, as a National Reporter in Intellectual Property, Technology, Media, and Telecommunications Commission, Ülkü’s report on “Privacy & the media. Traditional and emerging protections in an online world” attracted top honors, winning AIJA’s Past Presidents Awards for the Best National Report.
